About Us

Founded in 1985 on a farm in the North West near Pilangsburg, in Bophuthustwana, Christway was originally a haven for struggling families, abused women and unwed mothers. During the late 1990s Elize Baker and her two girls moved to the big city, Johannesburg. Here she realised the conditions for the poor and disadvantaged were no better than in the rural arrears.

Six years ago Elize registered and began Christway religious and social services on rented property at 105 Stanton street, Turffonttein, Johannesburg.

Elize identified Christway's mission as being:

  • To meet the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of every disadvantaged individual in the South of Johannesburg.

Our vision:

  • To establish a community care centre that can house two hundred and fifty children daily, where they would be able to be fed and educated.
  • To open a shelter/ mission for Orphaned children, destitute and homeless families.
  • To establish a community school for children who can not find space in the surrounding community schools, or even children who do not have the necessary documentation to attend school.
  • To share the Love of Jesus with children and every person who makes use of our centres.
  • To educate all in the Bible.
  • To establish more feeding schemes in and around the South of Johannesburg.
  • To give Godly love and comfort to the young and old, especially during those frail stages restoring their dignity in life and death.

Our Motto

Touching Hearts Changing Lives - Christway remains deeply committed to reaching every impoverished individual in our community. Together with all who are willing to give of their time and effort we will reach our gaols sooner rather than later. As each one, reaches one and teaches one we can uplift those in despair, and give them hope for a better tomorrow.
